The Unconventional UNconference
...Helping Entrepreneurs Grow Their Businesses
Local entrepreneurs are in for a real treat at this year’s Kent Unconference, as organisers Canterbury City Council, RIFT Accounting and The Business Bunker Radio have created an inspirational program to enable them to learn from each other’s experiences and promote their businesses.
The greatest benefit of the unconventional UNconference concept is that delegates state what they want to take away from the day at the outset and then work with the organisers to ensure that other attendees, who are experts in those areas, run workshops and presentations. The idea is that everyone learns something valuable that relates to their specific business needs. This year there are 2 new exciting additions to the format to help attendees raise brand awareness for their business. The first is that business owners will be given the opportunity to give a 2 minute elevator pitch to promote their products and services to all the potential clients, business partners and investors in the room. The entrepreneur who gives the best pitch on the day will win an iPad Mini. The second addition is the opportunity for those business owners who are focused on exposure and growth to buy a lunchtime exhibition stand spot for just £25.
Several impressive guest speakers with years of business success under their belts will be sharing their stories at the UNconference. For example, Managing Director of Catch IT Services in Herne Bay, Toby Roy, will be revealing his secret success formula for leading one of the fastest growing IT organisations in Kent, including tips about international trade, efficient supply chains, and taking calculated risks. Designer Silversmith Steven Ottewill, leads a team of highly experienced and creative silversmiths, goldsmiths, jewellers, designers and polishers. He will be explaining the business benefits of marrying the skills of his ancient profession with cutting edge high tech production methods, to make his processes more efficient and his work relevant and highly desirable to a modern audience. Other experts will be describing their entrepreneurial success stories throughout the day in between the breakout sessions, pitches and workshops.
This year’s UNconference is already set to be even more successful than the last with Chris West from Canterbury City Council revealing ‘We’ve already sold out of tickets twice so we’ve expanded the event and released one third and final tranche of additional tickets and are now looking forward to an excellent day’.
If you’re attending the Unconference this year you will also get the opportunity to sign up as a free member of Canterbury City Council’s StartMyBiz and GrowMyBiz, business support projects and take advantage of the free mentoring, business directory services, workshops and funding opportunities available.
You can join the conversation on Twitter by following @GrowMy_biz, @StartMyBiz and @RIFTAccounting.
The Kent UNconference is on 17th November, as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, from 10.00am to 4.00pm at the beautiful Canterbury Cathedral venue.
